Run between 1979 and 1984, Japan's Super Silhouette series featured some of the most outrageous race cars the world has ever seen. Built in conformity with FIA Group 5 specifications, Super Silhouette cars were production-based, but only in the sense that they had the same silhouette and engine block as their roadgoing counterparts...and beyond that, the sky was the limit. Consequently, the Super Silhouettes featured exaggerated wings and monstrous turbocharged powerplants, making them some of the wildest and most beloved of all Japanese race cars. Most famous of all were the iconic red-on-black Nissan Skyline RS Turbos fielded by Hasemi Motorsport, which claimed two series victories in 1982 and five in 1983, and were an incalculable inspiration to the "bosozoku" tuning movement in Japan.
AUTOart's new 1:18-scale diecast replica of the 1982-specification Hasemi Motorsport Skyline Super Silhouette is the latest in a decades-long series of scale model versions of the iconic Nissan racer...and is one of the best as well. Featuring hundreds of individual parts, it exhibits a level of detail found only in the finest diecast model cars. Its removable front clip reveals a fully rendered copy of the car's legendary LZ20B engine, and its cockpit features a riveted tub and beautifully executed roll cage. For serious enthusiasts of Japanese racing history, the 1:18 Skyline Super Silhouette is an absolutely essential piece of automobilia.
