International sports car racing in the mid-1960s is mostly remembered for epic battles between the exotic mid-engined prototypes of Ford and Ferrari, as well as the ascendant Porsche factory effort. However, there was still room for old-fashioned open sports cars to achieve success, as demonstrated in the 1966 Sebring 12 Hours by the Shelby Cobra 427 Roadster fielded by privateers Scuderia Bear. Driven by Americans Bob Grossman and Ed Lowther, the brutally powerful Cobra would score a class victory in the Sports Over Five Liters category, finishing a highly credible tenth place overall (several spots ahead of Scuderia Bear's own Ford GT prototype).

This fascinating footnote in Shelby racing history is now the subject of a highly detailed 1:43-scale resin replica by TSM. Cutting an exciting figure in lustrous silver paint, it features an incredibly accurate cockpit, as well as a wealth of exterior touches such as prominent side-mounted exhaust and wide knock-off wheels. For serious collectors of 1:43-scale Shelby race cars, the '66 Sebring 427 Roadster by TSM is a must-have.
