The story of IMSA GT competition in the late 1970s can be summarized as "Numerous carmakers try, fail to dethrone the mighty Porsche 935." Among the challengers that came close to knocking the 935 from its lofty perch was BMW's turbocharged, wide-fendered 320i, developed over three seasons of competition from an unreliable also-ran to a fast-but-fragile winner. Just as BMW seemed to be on the precipice of long-term success with the 320i Turbo program, it pulled the plug, making the car's appearance at the 1979 season-ending race at Daytona its last. This "what-if?" footnote in BMW Motorsport history is honored by Spark's new 1:43-scale, limited-edition resin replica of the David Hobbs BMW 320i Turbo in its final race appearance. Spark has faithfully recreated the car's signature chunky appearance and clean BMW Motorsport livery, along with nice small features including an accurate side-exit exhaust and driver window net. Limited in production to only 500 pieces, the 320i Turbo IMSA racer by Spark is a must-have for serious collectors of 1:43-scale racing BMWs.
