BMW 635CSi Group A - 1984 Bathurst 1000 - 1:43 Scale Model Car
1984 was a pivotal year for Australian touring car racing, as longtime favorite Group C cars (the "big banger" Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons) would be run for the last time. Their eventual successors, Group A cars such as the Rover Vitesse and BMW 635CSi, would make their first appearance that year at Bathurst, a fearsome road circuit sometimes referred to as Australia's answer to the Nurburgring. Making a strong showing in 1984 was the John Player-sponsored BMW co-driven by Prince Leopold Von Bayern and former F1 world champion Denny Hulme, which claimed 2nd in class and 15th overall, but perhaps more importantly laid the foundation for JPS Team BMW's Australian Group A championship run the following season. Spark Models have just issued a limited-edition 1:43-scale replica of this overlooked-but-significant piece of BMW Motorsport history, featuring an incredible level of detail that includes fully realized exterior lighting as well as a beautifully recreated roll cage. Fans of international touring car racing should not miss an opportunity to add this rare and desirable model to their collections.
