BMW Alpina B2S (E9,1971) - 1:43 Scale Model Car
Based on the BMW 3.0CSL, the Alpina B2S was a purebred race car for the street. It featured a lightweight aluminum-and-steel body, Perspex side windows and a fiberglass rear bumper for maximum weight savings, but Alpina's real magic was worked under the hood: forged pistons, big valves, triple Webers and a high-lift cam yielded a 250-horsepower straight six that was more than a match for Porsche's hot rod Carreras of the day. Underneath, adjustable sway bars and progressive-rate springs kept everything nailed to the ground. The result was a road-going version of Alpina's ETCC-conquering BMW E9 racers, and with only a handful completed, it stands as one of the rarest of the first wave of German tuner cars.
Spark's new 1:43-scale resin replica of the Alpina B2S E9 serves as a wonderful introduction to this somewhat obscure tuning special. The famous "BMW ALPINA" script is faithfully applied to its perfectly proportioned flanks, along with photoetched copies of the intricate Alpina road wheels. Interior detail is similarly excellent.
SPECIFICATIONS: 1:43 scale (approximately four inches in length). Resin body, no opening parts. Fixed-position steering. Comes with acrylic dust cover and display base.
