Developed in secret and in defiance of General Motors' ban on motorsports activity, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport had all the right [moves] to become an instant success on track. Unfortunately the corporate killjoys on GM's infamous "fourteenth floor" killed the Grand Sport program before it had a proper chance to realize its true potential as a world-beating sports racer. Among the five legendary Grand Sport Corvettes completed was chassis number 002, a roadster, that was sold to Roger Penske. Finished in the blue livery of Penske's principal sponsor, Sunoco, the Grand Sport Roadster was entered in the notorious 1966 Sebring 12 Hours, where it would fail to finish (though steering clear of the numerous tragic accidents that plagued the event). Despite this DNF, Grand Sport #002 cemented its place as a hint of what might have been with proper factory support.
TSM's 1:43-scale resin replica of Corvette Grand Sport #002 as it appeared at Sebring in 1966 is a stirring reminder of this historic racing legend. It features an impressive level of detail, from its perfectly hewn knock-off race wheels to its intricate cockpit. For Corvette enthusiasts, the TSM Grand Sport Roadster is a must-have piece of memorabilia.
