Every great story has a first chapter. For the legendary Ford GT40, considered by many to be the greatest American race car of all time, that first chapter was chassis #GT/101, the first GT40 prototype. Constructed in England as an evolution of the Lola GT program, the first GT40 would be the subject of private testing before its emergence at Le Mans test days in April, 1964. The car proved to be unstable at high speeds, leading test driver Jo Schlesser to crash on the Mulsanne Straight in wet conditions. The subsequent fate of chassis GT/101 is unclear, but it is certain that the lessons taken from the car's short on-track career would form the foundation for future GT40 contenders, eventually leading to four consecutive victories at Le Mans between 1966 and 1969.

A car of incalculable historic importance, the first Ford GT40 test car is now the subject of a spectacular 1:43-scale resin replica by Spark. Uncommonly beautiful, even by Spark's high standards, the GT40 is resplendent in its white finish with matte blue hood, accented by flawless wire wheels. Of special note is the gorgeous cockpit, with accurately upholstered racing seats. For collectors of vintage race cars in general, and historic Ford GTs in particular, the new GT/101 by Spark is an essential addition.
