With the popularity of silhouette racing at its zenith at the dawn of the 1980s, Ford Motor Company responded to the dominance of the Porsche 935 with a wide-bodied racer of its own: the Mustang GTX. Ford's Special Vehicle Operations branch stretched a Fox-body Mustang shell over Zakspeed Capri underpinnings, and stuffed it with a 600-horsepower turbo four. In the hands of touring car ace and Le Mans winner Klaus Ludwig, the Mustang GTX proved to be the occasional equal of the Porsche 935 in the hypercompetitive IMSA Camel GT series, taking wins at Brainerd and Sears Point in the car's debut 1981 season.

Spark Models have just released their brilliant 1:43-scale resin replica of Klaus Ludwig's Ford Mustang GTX as it appeared in its maiden victory at Brainerd. Resplendent in Miller livery, the model evokes a most memorable period in American motorsports. Fine details include intricate sponsor decals, accurate BBS "turbofan" wheels, and flawlessly rendered aerodynamic components.
