Matra MS80 High Wing (1969 Spanish GP Winner) - 1:18 Scale Model Car
By the end of the 1960s, a revolution in aerodynamics was underway in Formula 1, leading to wild experimental devices such as "high wing" aerofoils that would create substantial downforce while remaining outside of the aero turbulence of the chassis. These wings were extremely effective, but were also prone to failure...and being mounted directly to the rear suspension of the car, failure often meant a violent high-speed crash. High wings were banned only two races into the 1969 Formula 1 season, both of which were won by Jackie Stewart in the Matra MS80, the only French-built car to ever capture the F1 championship, and now available as a 1:18-scale resin-cast model by Spark. Spark's Matra offers an extremely precise glimpse at the fast-but-fragile nature of F1 technology in 1969. Captured in all its glory is the magnificent high wing, as well as the wonderfully detailed Cosworth DFV and cockpit. The Matra MS80 by Spark is an absolutely essential addition to any collection of vintage F1 models.
