Originally designed as a military vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (or "Gelandewagen") went on sale to the public in 1979. Featuring classic body-on-frame construction and three locking differentials, it quickly became a legend for its off-road prowess and indestructible nature. Until 2002, the G-Class was not officially exported to the United States, making it a highly coveted piece of forbidden fruit available in America only on the grey market. The last of these pre-export G-Wagens, the G500, has been replicated in 1:18 scale by the master modellers at AUTOart. Detail is exceptional, including accurately rendered engine compartment and luxurious passenger cabin, as well as beautiful paint and road wheels.
