The Porsche 917K would launch a full assault on the world's endurance races for sports cars in 1970, scoring victories at Le Mans and Daytona to name just a few. Among the car's few failures to secure a win was the 1970 Buenos Aires 1000km event, which saw the David Piper Auto Racing 917K claim pole position for Piper and co-driver Brian Redman, only to retire on the 58th lap of the race. Though ultimately unsuccessful, the David Piper 917K is nonetheless an important footnote in the 917 story, and Spark's new 1:43-scale resin replica will be a welcome addition to the collection of Porsche model enthusiasts who crave maximum depth in their subject matter.
