The popularity of international sports car racing grew dramatically in the United States in the 1970s, when GT competition stood firm in the face of various oil crises. Although BMW and Chevrolet produced strong competitors for the decade's defining production-based sports car series, the IMSA GT Championship, the 1970s truly belonged to Porsche. Porsche's turbocharged 934 and 935 silhouette racers would dominate GT racing throughout the latter half of the decade; in 1977, the 934/5 evolution was the car to beat, as exemplified by the Interscope Racing 934/5, driven to victory in the Monterey Triple Crown hundred-mile race at Laguna Seca by Danny Ongais. As part of their ongoing line of significant Porsche racers, TopSpeed has released a spectacular 1:18-scale resin replica of the Interscope 934/5, featuring accurate fender flares, race wheels, and the 934/5's defining rear wing. It also boasts a beautifully executed finish, with crisply rendered racing stripes and sponsor livery.
