Gianpiero Moretti was the consummate "gentleman racer," parlaying his success in developing and manufacturing high-quality performance motoring accessories into stewardship of his own private race team. His red-and-yellow MOMO-liveried sports racers would become familiar sights on race tracks in America and Europe from the 1970s up to today, often fighting hard with factory-backed teams. One of MOMO's greatest eras would begin midway through the 1988 IMSA GTP season, when Moretti would dump his unsuccessful March-Buick for a highly competitive Porsche 962. Almost immediately, the MOMO-liveried 962 would begin racking up strong finishes, making its own brightly colored mark on prototype racing's heyday.
Spark Models continues their tradition of releasing "deep cuts" from the history of motor racing with their new 1:43-scale resin replica of the Momo Corse Porsche 962, presented as it appeared at the 1988 Del Mar 2-Hour IMSA GTP race, where the car would score a credible 12th-place finish. As we've come to expect from Spark, detail is magnificent. The iconic MOMO livery is captured to lustrous perfection, as are the car's staggered race rims and prominent intake and rear wing. Collectors of 1980s prototype racers should not miss this striking, limited-edition Porsche model.
