The Targa Florio was one of history's great open road races, a multi-lap bash of some of the most challenging roads in Sicily. The narrow, twisting circuit was well suited to small, nimble cars...making the appearance of Shelby's thunderous 289 Cobras in 1964 somewhat shocking. Indeed, the five-car Cobra effort was an almost complete failure at the Targa Florio, but for the unparalleled skill and gritty determination of Dan Gurney. Sharing the #146 Cobra with Jerry Grant, Gurney wrung every ounce of performance from the beefy roadster, even pressing on to the finish after the car's suspension broke. His reward was a class win and 8th-place overall finish, further cementing his own legend as arguably America's greatest driver, as well as the legend of Cobra performance.
TSM's new 1:43-scale resin replica of the Gurney/Grant Targa Florio Cobra is a masterpiece of fine detail. Its paint finish is exquisite, as are the racing cockpit, roll bar, and iconic Halibrand wheels. Shelby model collectors and Dan Gurney fans alike will not want to miss this beautiful model of a most significant historic racer.
