    Initially conceived as a rally car, the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 would instead become one of the dominant touring car racers of the 1980s. In roadgoing, homologation-special form, the 2.3-16 packed a Cosworth-developed, 16-valve inline four good for 167 horsepower in U.S. specification, along with a performance tuned suspension and the bank-vault build quality for which Mercedes was famous.
