The collapse of the World Sportscar Championship in the early 1990s proved to be a boon for factory-backed homologation specials, as production-based GT racing emerged to fill the void for European race fans. With loose regulations that (initially) required the production of only a single street version of a GT racer, carmakers jumped into the fray with gusto. Among them was BMW, who built one lone wide-bodied E36 M3 GTR road car, with a reputed 325 horsepower available from its tuned S50 B30.

As only one example of the E36 M3 GTR Strassenversion was ever built, Maxichamps' new 1:43-scale diecast replica is a bit of a fantasy car, offering a never-realized choice of black or white paint.
