The story of Ford's eventual dominance at Le Mans throughout the late 1960s is well known, but to achieve such success they first had to endure several years of teething pains. Such was the case at the 1965 running of the 24 hour event, when all but one of eleven Ford-powered cars would fail to finish the race. These on-track failures would prove to be important lessons for Ford and Shelby American, and as such, scale replicas of these fast-but-fragile prototypes are important pieces for collectors of Ford racing history seeking to build complete collections of GT40 models.
Hence, Model Citizen is pleased to offer two GT40 Mark Is from the ill-fated Ford campaign at the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans. Presented here are the #6 5.3-liter car of Scuderia Filipinetti, driven by Herbert Muller and Ronnie Bucknum, and the #7 4.7-liter machine of Rob Walker Racing, driven by Bob Bondurant and Umberto Maglioli. Though both cars would succumb to head gasket failure in the race's 3rd hour, they are nonetheless significant historic racers, and Spark has given them a highly accurate treatment in 1:43 scale. The GT40's sleek bodywork is faithfully replicated and bathed in the gorgeous livery of their respective teams. Aerodynamic aids and wide race wheels are also presented in perfect detail.
Note: Pricing is for each individual car.
